Original photograph, unmounted albumen print. 23.5 x 30.2cm. This photograph which includes in the group of fifty officers, two Japanese described as ‘clerks’- ‘Koja Nobro’ and ‘Hirano Tamenojo’. Each individual in the photograph is numbered discretely in black pen, and then idenified by reference to a separate contemporary manuscript list of names. The Japanese on board were no doubt undergoing naval training. Y06040179
